Arsenal have been sub par this season and things haven’t exactly been better since the sacking of head coach Unai Emery. Freddie Ljunberg was then appointed as interim head coach and was able to change the mood a bit with the help of that win against West Ham.

But things suddenly turned sour again as champions Man City came to the Emirates and trashed Arsenal by 3 goals to nil. It wasn’t just the result but the lack of fight and character from the players.

Arsenal fans needed a lift and the board knew that. They got in contact with former player and then assistant manager to Pep Guardiola at Man City, Mikel Arteta and offered him the managerial position.

Arteta who is rated highly by many including former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was today confirmed to have signed a three and a half year contract with the club stating that he is prepared to get them competing for top trophies again.
