On Saturday, the Court of Appeal in Imo State dismissed the appeal filed by Nnanna Igbokwe of the All Progressives Congress, (APC), which challenges the victory of Emeka Chinedu of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP).
Chinedu emerged as the winner of the House of Representatives polls representing Ahiazu Mbaise/Ezinihitte Mbaise Federal Constituency of Imo State in the House of Representatives.
R.C Agbo, the chairman of the panel, said that the appeal lacked merit while he read the judgement.
The Jurist, on reading the court’s verdict, attributed that the judgment of the election tribunal which announced Chinedu as the winner of the election was without fault.
While in court, Agbo asserted that the evidence before the panel proves that the petitioner could not prove his claims against the tribunal of mutilation, violence and over-voting.
However, Chinedu commended Igbokwe for his “dogged fight” and enjoined him to assist his administration in the development of the federal constituency therefore putting the interest of the people ahead of their personal desires.
Speaking after the appeal court supported Emeka Chinedu’s victory, the lawmaker assured the state that he would now concentrate and deliver the dividends of democracy to his constituents.
