Peter Obi, the running mate to ex-vice president Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, one of the presidential candidates in the 2019 general elections, has aired his opinion regarding the appeal case dismissal by the Apex Court yesterday.
The court case, which commenced shortly after President Muhammadu Buhari was announced as the winner of the 2019 presidential polls, was made by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its 2019 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar. It challenges the authenticity of the 2019 Presidential Election Tribunal and the veracity of President Buhari’s information to INEC concerning his certificate qualifications.
The decision at the supreme court was unanimously made by a seven-member panel of judges who did not disclose the reason for the dismissal of the appeal case but assured Nigerians that the reason will eventually be unveiled.
In the ex-governor’s statement, which was made shortly after the court’s ruling, he thanked Nigerians who participated in the 2019 polls.
He also gave his reason for appearing at the court yesterday. His full statements goes thus;
“Our reason for coming to court is because we believe that the election…the result was not the result of lawful votes cast. But the process has come to the end. I thank all those who were involved – the lawyers, the judges, all of you, the Fourth Estate.
“This election and the judgement is not about President Buhari or His Excellency, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. It is about the future of our country and what we are going to bequeath to our children. It is about our country.”
